Then: the original home workshop
Now: the Golden Square workshop
Our story
How Did Midland Metalworks Start?
Troy Hutchins started Midland Metalworks in 2020 as his own business, working from a home workshop. It has since grown into a fully registered company with its own fully equipped workshop in Golden Square, Bendigo. A site-ready ute takes MMW wherever the job is.
Troy started his apprenticeship at 16 and has worked just about every kind of metal job since. That includes mine-site contracts, big rail and hydro projects, and thin aluminium on custom cars. It's why MMW is as happy repairing a cracked excavator bucket as restoring a vintage yacht fitting others wouldn't touch.
Variety is what drives him, so Troy enjoys one-off, custom and “unfixable” jobs far more than repetitive production work. He also takes real pride in finishing repairs other shops have knocked back.
Moving into a dedicated Golden Square workshop was a deliberate investment. It gives MMW room for material storage, pre-fabrication and heavier plant. Bigger builds get done properly, while Troy stays free for on-site and emergency work.
